The Romans Road is an easy way to understand how God provided salvation, how we can receive that salvation, and what are the results of salvation, all from one book of the Bible, Paul the Apostle’s letter to the Romans! If you have a Bible, look up the passages and underline them as you go (and yes, it IS OKAY to underline or highlight passages in the Bible). We’ve included the text here, so let’s get going.

The first stop on the Romans Road is Romans 3:23, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” We have all sinned. We have all done things that are displeasing to God. No one is innocent. Romans 3:10-18 gives a detailed picture of what sin looks like in our lives.

The second stop on the Romans Road, Romans 6:23, teaches us about the consequences of sin, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” The punishment that we have earned for our sins is death. Not just physical death, but eternal death and separation from the ONE who loves us most.

The third intersection on the Romans Road is Romans 5:8, “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” Jesus' death on the cross paid the price for our sins. Jesus' resurrection proves that God accepted Jesus' death as the payment for our sins.

Let’s back up to stop #2 and recall the second half of Romans 6:23 “…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” That’s a scenic turnout on this road! We deserve to die for our own sins, but God gave His Son Jesus the judgment we deserved, while offering to us His free gift of eternal life.

The fourth stop on the Romans road to salvation is Romans 10:9-10, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.”Because of Jesus' death on our behalf we may come to Him by faith, believe in Him, trusting His death as the payment for our sins - and we will be saved! Romans 10:13 says it again, “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Jesus died to pay the penalty for our sins and rescue us from eternal death. Salvation, the forgiveness of sins, is available to anyone who will trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

The final aspect of the Romans road to salvation is the results of salvation. Romans 5:1-2, “Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.” Through Jesus Christ we can have a relationship of peace with God. Romans 8:1-2 teaches us, “So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.”Because of Jesus' death on our behalf, we will never be condemned for our sins.

Upon arrival at our destination we have this precious promise of God from Romans 8:38-39, “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Would you like to follow the Romans road to salvation? If so, here is a simple prayer you can pray to God. Saying this prayer is a way to declare to God that you are relying on Jesus Christ for your salvation. The words themselves will not save you. Only placing your faith in Jesus Christ can provide salvation!

"God, I know that I have sinned against you and am deserving of punishment. But Your Son, Jesus Christ, took the punishment that I deserve so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. With your help, I turn away from my sin and place my trust in You for salvation. Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness - the gift of eternal life! Amen!"

If you've just prayed that prayer, we want to help you! One of the keys to growing and staying strong in your new relationship with Jesus Christ is joining one of our LIFE Groups and building friendships with others who share your new faith!
